About Us

We are a small home-based kennel located 25 minutes west of London in Dutton, ON. Sierra’s Hope Siberians is a home to multiple Canadian Champion show dogs and we are very proud of our accomplishments. My goal as a Siberian Husky Breeder is to produce Siberian puppies both sound in mind and body. All our puppies are born and raised in my loving home and are well socialized with children and other dogs to ensure calm, confident temperaments. We only have 1-2 litters a year and all our breeding dogs stay with us until the end.

I breed in accordance with the CKC/AKC Breed Standards. As a Siberian Husky Breeder, I strive to improve the breed with each litter of Siberian Husky Puppies that I have, focusing on temperament, intelligence, correct structure, elegance and health.

Puppies are CKC Registered, micro chipped, vet examined with first vaccines, dewormed 3 times with Panacure, a 6 week trial pet insurance through Pets Plus, 2 year limited health guarantee and lifetime breeder support. Puppies are sold on a CKC non-breeding agreement with a spay/neuter agreement. All pups will be co-owned with breeder.

To ensure the health of our litters we produce, we have built our kennel on foundation bloodlines requiring all potential parents we breed to have a Hip certification of “Excellent” or “Good ”by the Orthopaedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). They also have performed CAER eye testing every year by a board certified animal ophthalmologist.

We are in excellent standing with the CKC and have a long list of happy clients for reference.

How it all started

Our history with the breed

When I was growing up I always wanted a Siberian Husky. Finally at 17 years old I got my first husky and named her Sierra. I found Sierra advertised in the London Free Press in the classified ads.  As I am sure you have already guessed by my kennel name Sierra’s Hope Siberians, Sierra did not come from a very reputable place. Even though my friend tried to persuade me from getting her, I said all dogs need a good home, and that’s what I gave her.  However, there was no way to know my best friend’s health was failing.  After multiple x-rays, blood work and ultrasound testing, we received news nobody wants to hear; Sierra was gravely ill.  She was diagnosed with an ectopic ureter, which clearly explained her urinating in her sleep.  However, the news got worse from here and she was suffering from renal failure as a result.  Despite all my efforts, I had to say an incredibly painful goodbye to my best friend at just 16 months old.

In 2005 I purchased my first 2 CKC Reg’d dogs Kyra and Meika, and they became the foundation on which Sierra’s Hope Siberian’s was born. After enduring so much pain of losing Sierra, I wanted to make sure I was doing things right.  In order to ensure the health of our bloodlines we immediately began doing all pre requisite health checks like x-raying both hips/elbows, and having them graded by the OFA.  Additionally, we also have their eyes tested by an animal ophthalmologist.  Through this selective process we strive to ensure no new owner is ever left dealing with the pain I went through with Sierra’s passing.  Although Kyra and Meika were not perfectly aligned with the breed standard, they were incredibly well dispositioned and very healthy.  It was these two beauties I learned how to show dogs, which included special grooming techniques.

Fast forward to 2016; I started with all new bloodlines, and I purchased my first show dog through Kristari Siberians in the USA.  Kristari’s Shocking Story aka Tesla was about to become a Canadian!  Upon becoming a Canadian, we immediately began to show her and she quickly became a Grand Champion with multiple awards and the title GCH (grand champion) Kristari’s Shocking Story.  To round out this addition to the Kennel we went back to the USA and acquired another very high calibre dog from Kristari’s once again.  CH Kristari’s Barking up the right tree aka Timber was successfully bred to Tesla and fathered some truly stunning puppies full of rich pigments and amazing temperaments.

The origin of the breed

The nomadic Chukchi people of northeastern Siberia used a medium-sized working dog to pull their sleds and herd reindeer. In their isolated region, with no other dogs to crossbreed, the Chukchis mated the best of their dogs to each other and the type bred pure and true for over 3,000 years. Noted for its ability to pull light loads over great distances at moderate speeds, the breed caught the attention of a fur trader and explorer by the name of Olaf Swenson, who brought the first of the breed to the U.S. shortly after the turn of the last century, Siberians raced in the All-Alaska Sweepstakes for the first time. A team of Siberians driven by a Norwegian, Leonhard Seppala, won the big Alaska race in 1915, ’16 and ’17. In the winter of 1925, Seppala drove one of several teams, which, running in relay, gained international prominence as the heroes that delivered serum to avert a diphtheria epidemic in Nome, Alaska. The serum run served to bring the breed to the attention of the public and a personal-appearance tour by Seppala and his team made friends for the breed from coast to coast.
